The retirement of this organisation’s
long-standing principal executive officer prompted a decision by
the Board to conduct a recruitment campaign in-house, to be managed
by Rachel Maidment under the direction of the Chairman of the Board.

Publicity
Writing and designing the advertisement;
researching media to identify the most appropriate placement for
the advertisement; negotiating rates; briefing an agency to create
the artwork for the printed advertisement; liaising with Government
departments to secure additional publicity for the vacancy.
Administration
Developing a spreadsheet to record
interest in the vacancy to track applicants’ progress through
the

process. Ensuring applicants received regular notification of their
progress.

Liaising with HR experts for guidance
on developing key documents (eg: application forms and terms of
appointment) in line with current good practice.
Recruitment
Liaising with an HR expert to develop
assessment criteria for use throughout the recruitment process,
then using this criteria to assess written applications and interviews.
Planning
Liaising with Selection Panel members
in the planning of first and second interviews; developing, producing
and disseminating briefing papers and assessment forms; ensuring
arrangements were in place for the busy programme of interviews;
and attending all interviews in a secretarial capacity.
Outcome
After responding to nearly 80 expressions
of interest in the position, processing 40 applications, and overseeing
first and second interviews, a new Chief Executive was appointed,
within budget and on schedule.
